Cornelio Rodriguez, an accomplished potter, came to La Jolla in 1928 from Tomatlan in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. He was looking for a place to start a pottery works. With his brothers, Abraham and Ubaldo, they chose to settle here because they found potter’s gold, perfect clay deposit, known as “barro. Cornelio purchased property and opened the La Jolla Canyon Clay Product Company. They and their families prospered and grew their business.

For more than 20 years the Canyon Clay Company produced handmade roof tiles, unglazed floor tiles, unglazed floor tiles and adobe brick. Tiles were used in the restoration of Mission San Diego de Alcala, the construction of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club and La Jolla’s Mary Star of the Sea church. Many roof tiles from their company were used for numerous houses of the Mission Revival architectural period as well.

In the 1950s the brothers were no longer able to use the large oil-fired kiln of earlier days. A large number of family members moved. However, Abraham and Cornelio stayed and lived out their days here. Cornelio and his wife, Matiana, continued making pots and other clay products on a smaller scale. Utilizing hand-dug clay, shaped on a potter’s wheel and fired in a circular wood-burning kiln, they supplied the community with unique pottery. School children were fascinated with demonstrations from Cornelio and Matiana.

All that remains of the original tile works is the old wood-burning kiln, which continued in use until the 1980s.

Since the 1880′s, La Jolla has been a favorite vacation destination. Boasting southern California’s most beautiful and majestic coastline and the finest weather in the world, La Jolla offers a varied selection of hotels, shopping, dining, events and attractions. There are approximately 43,000 currently residing in La Jolla, click here demographics.

Support for Military Homeowners

by Arnie Levine on October 1, 2010

in Current Affairs,Latest News

WASHINGTON — Fannie Mae plans to give military families a break on their home loan payments if they are struggling because of the death or injury of a service member.

The Washington-based company says it will reduce or suspend borrowers’ monthly payments up to six months. Fannie Mae is the largest buyer and backer of U.S. home mortgages, owning or guaranteeing about $3.2 trillion in home loans.

Fannie Mae also says it would suspend reporting to credit bureaus for up to six months to minimize the impact on the borrower’s credit score.

To determine whether they are eligible, military members or their surviving spouses should contact their mortgage company, or visit www.KnowYourOptions.com/Military or call the Fannie Mae Military Support Hotline, 877-MIL-4566.

THANK YOU to our military for the great sacrifice they and their families make each day.

your credit score1 How important are credit scores when applying for a home loan? Huge! Scores are a major factor in being approved for a home loan. Find out your scores before starting your home search. There are steps you can take to improve your credit score and fix any problems that show up on your credit report. It may take sometime so start today!

When you check your credit report, make sure you check all three of the national credit reporting agencies: Experian, Trans-Union and EquiFax.

  1. Review your credit report carefully for items that may be erroneous. If you believe something on your credit report is reported in error, you have the right to contest it. Contact the credit  agency and explain why you believe the item is inaccurate. Supporting documentation such as receipts and canceled checks can help your claim.  You can also contact a “credit report repair services firm” for some help.
  2. Accurate, derogatory items may show up on your report that can cause problems in your loan application, they can’t be removed,  however you can take steps to counteract them. In the event that you have missed payments in the past, take steps now to get your bills current. Late payments drop your score quickly. Take advantage of electronic payments in order to make sure your payments are made on time.
  3. Zeroing out  your credit balances is really not the solution. Established credit helps when purchasing big items, such as a home.  Avoid closing out your accounts, just keep your balances down or paid off and on time. When your lender runs your credit to make a decision on your loan application, he or she will want to see that you have had a long credit management history.
  4. Credit cards maxed out? Start with an aggressive strategy for paying some of them down. A critical factor,  that affects your ability to be approved for a home loan, is your debt to income ratio. In addition, high credit card balances can drag down your credit score.

It is generally better to begin with your highest-rate balances first. Many consumers are tempted to move around balances when they receive an offer from another bank that is good,  remember that the worst thing you can do when you are trying to make a major purchase is to open new accounts.

Speak to a lender today for information and guidance!

Are you a model, need family portraits, event pictures?

photography1791 192x300 Are you a model, need family portraits, event pictures?

The unveiling of Jessika Levine’s photography website.  Jessika’s passion for photography shows through her photos.

A little bit about Jessika:

I was born in Everett, Washington,  moved to San Diego, CA when I was 12. I started taking pictures my sophomore year in high school and fell in love with photography. Since then I’ve been in an AP photography class and have won awards in contests including the Del Mar Fair. I started taking pictures of nature, but grew into a love for people photography. I started looking at magazines wanting to do their shoots. Once I focused on fashion photography I knew that was the field I had to pursue. People have described my work as natural. I try to use the natural beauty of my model or models. I hope to go to the Seattle Art Institute after community college and then work in the fashion industry in New York.

“More Distress with Distressed Home Sales”

by Arnie Levine on September 17, 2010

in Latest News

CoreLogic announced on Thursday September 16th, 2010 the inaugural release of its U.S. Housing and Marketing Trends report, a bi-monthly research report on housing sales, valuations, negative equity and foreclosure activity.

The report shows that distressed sales are at a seven month low, primarily due to the tax credit. Now that the tax credit extension has expired the distressed sales are expected to rise in the fall.

What are distressed sales? That includes, REO’s (real estate owned, which is a foreclosure) and short sales.

  • In June the distressed sales share fell 24% of the overall sales. This is a decline from June of 2009, which peaked at 35%.
  • As of June 2010, Las Vegas (61%) and Riverside (59%) continue to lead the nation in distressed sales for the largest 25 metropolitan markets.
  • Phoenix (53%), Sacramento (51%) and Orlando (50%) were the only other markets where distressed sales accounted for the majority of home sales activity.
  • Lowest distressed sale share included: Nassau (5%) and New York City (8%) followed by Baltimore (18%), Seattle (19%) and Minneapolis (19%).

The report also provides data on national, state, and top 25 cities on home prices, negative equity, delinquencies, pre-foreclosure filings and auction filings.  Download report at www.corelogic.com/About-Us/ResearchTrends/US-Housing-and-Mortgage-Trends.aspx.
